STANFORD, Calif. - Sybille Gauvain and Marie Klocker advanced to the round of 32 with a successful first day of action at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships, played at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center.

Gauvain advanced through round of 128 via bye and then cruised past Portland's Emily Gould by a 6-1, 6-0 score to secure one of the final 32 spots. Gauvain will face Sophia Bott from the University of Washington in a 10:00 a.m. match Saturday morning.

Klocker faced a stiffer path to the round of 32, as the sophomore had to get past Sac State's Ana Loaiza before squaring off with Cal's Olivia Hauger in one of the last matches of the day. The Mulhouse, France native handled both with ease, though, as she bested both opponents in straight sets. Klocker will take on Fresno State's Galina Bykova in the same 10:00 a.m. time slot.

Two of the Spartans' three doubles teams in the event, Marine Dans/Sybille Gauvaina and Marie Klocker/Miyo Kobayashi received byes on Friday and will see their first action of the weekend when they take the court Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
