STANFORD, Calif. - Paired together for the first time, San José State's Miyo Kobayashi and Marie Klocker came out victorious on the second day of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center.
The Spartan duo cruised past Washington State's Maria Biryukova and Trang Huynh by an 8-2 score to move into Sunday's round of 16 and set up a date with Cal's Klara Fabikova and Olivia Hauger.
Miyo Kobayashi's older sister, Miki, proved to be a thorn in San José State's side Saturday. The University of Washington sophomore and her fellow Husky, Grace Ysidora, topped Marine Dans and Sybille Gauvain to knock the Spartans out of the main doubles draw.
In singles action, Klocker and Gauvain each won their first match of the day before falling in the round of 16.
