Nov. 8, 2015

San Jose, Calif. - With the 2015-16 regular season beginning on Friday night, the San José State women's basketball team wraps up exhibition play Monday evening on Walt McPherson Court against the Holy Names Hawks. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. in The Event Center.

SJSU cruised to an 84-61 victory over Sonoma State in its exhibition opener. Junior Jasmine Smith led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Rachol West and Paris Baird, both juniors, and sophomore Myzhanique Ladd were also in double figures in the scoring column. Senior Riana Byrd had a game-high 17 rebounds.

After a run to the semifinals of the 2015 Mountain West Tournament and posting a 15-17 record a year ago, head coach Jamie Craighead enters her third season leading the program which includes nine returning letterwinners, three transfers and one freshmen.

San José State, whose 78.6 points per game led the Mountain West last year, as did its 8.5 three-pointer per game, features a balanced up-tempo attack led by point guard and 2015-16 Mountain West Conference Preseason Co-Newcomer of the Year Dezz Ramos.
