Spartans Romp To 110-41 Win In Exhibition Finale

San Jose, Calif. - Seven Spartans scored in double figures and the San Jose State women's basketball team outscored the Holy Names Hawks 96-31 in the final three quarter en route to a 110-41 victory in the team's exhibition finale.

Junior guard Aniya Baker led the Spartans with 19 points and five steals. She scored 15 in a second half, a 20 minute stretch which saw SJSU hit nearly 59 percent (27-for-46) of its shots.

Senior center Riana Byrd added 13 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for San Jose State, which dominated the glass 59-to-30 including 30-to-9 on the offensive boards. SJSU used its advantage in offensive rebounds to outscore the Hawks 36-to-3 in second chance points.

Leading 43-18 at the half, San Jose State turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and forced Holy Names into 11 of its 37 turnovers on the night. They turned those 11 turnovers into 15 points and for the game had a total of 49 points off HNU mistakes.

Junior Jasmine Smith had 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Senior Ellie Stevens added 11 points, as did sophomore Myzhanique Ladd. Paris Baird, a junior, chipped in 10 points and freshman Andrea Kohlhaas scored 13 on 5-for-6 shooting from the field including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.

San José State open the 2015-16 regular season on Friday, November 13, when it hosts Southern Oregon in The Event Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
