Orlando, Fla. - A seven row high pyramid of boxes filled food products on one side of a ballroom and two pallets with 51 more boxes to nourish the hungry. That what the San Jose State football official travel party packed away in less than 50 minutes on their third afternoon of AutoNation Cure Bowl activities.
Approximately 70 players, coaches and administrators pitched in the Feed The Children charity drive aimed at ending childhood hunger at the Loews Royal Pacific Hotel Pacifica Ballroom. The pace was frantic as the Spartans eclipsed the previous record of 55 minutes to box enough food to feed 30,240 children. That would be the equivalent feeding the entire population of Northern California communities Auburn, Ukiah or South Lake Tahoe. Photo Gallery
San Jose State's charitable contributions and community service participation locally for the day also included running backs Malik Roberson and Jarrod Lawson, offensive tackle Nate Velichko, wide receiver Tim Crawley, safety Simon Connette and kicker Bryce Crawford visiting the Florida Hospital, the area's number-one hospital dedicated to furthering women's health and wellness. The Spartan cheerleaders and Marching Band topped off the afternoon with a Pep Rally and Battle of the Bands at the Universal City Walk.
San Jose State now turns its attention to the AutoNation Cure Bowl, Saturday, December 19, against Georgia State. Game time in the Citrus Bowl is 7:00 p.m. (ET)/4:00 p.m. (PT) with national television coverage by the CBS Sports Network. KLIV (1590 AM, San Jose) and KSJS (90.5 FM, San Jose) will have play-by-play radio coverage of the AutoNation Cure Bowl.
