PUSH FOR CONFERENCE SEEDING...SCOREBOARD WATCHING
The Spartans enter Saturday's action in a tie with Boise State for third place in the conference standings. With three games left in the regular season, SJSU can finish no higher than third place and no lower than eighth. The top-five teams in the standings entering the Mountain West Tournament earn a first-round bye. While we are still a game away from being able to breakdown all the scenarios, the Spartans control their own destiny. If they win two of their last three they will be assured of a first round bye.
DOUBLE DIGIT CONFERENCE WINS
With one victory in its final three games, the San Jose State will reach double digit conference wins for just the fifth time in the 40 years it has been affiliated with a league. If and when it happens, it will be the first time since the 2004-05 season when the team posted a 10-8 record in the WAC. The other three times the program posted double digit conference wins were 2001-02 (WAC), 1977-78 & 1978-89 (NorCal) when they set the program record with 12 wins.
SERIES SWEEP
With a win against Utah State on Saturday, the Spartans can claim the season series against the Aggies for just the second time in the history of the series. The only previous time SJSU took both games in a year was 2005-06. Utah State has done it to the Spartans six times with the most recent coming in the 2013-14 season.
SENIOR DAY AND HOME FINALE UP NEXT
On Tuesday, March 1, the Spartans wrap up the home portion of their 2015-16 schedule with a game against the Wyoming Cowgirls. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. The game also marks the final appearance on Walt McPherson Court for five Spartans. Seniors Emily Schill, Ellie Stevens, Emily Vann, Nyre Harris and Riana Byrd will be honored in a ceremony prior to tip off.
BYRD FLYING UP CAREER GAMES LIST
In the game at San Diego State (2/20), Riana Byrd (Sr., C, Richmond, Calif.) competed in her 116th game as a Spartan, which is good for fifth place on the program career-list for games played. Natalie White (2006-09) ranks fourth with 118. With a minimum of four games left on San José State's schedule, Byrd could reach 120 games played, which would equal Lamisha Augustine (2002-06) for second place all-time. The career record holder is Ta'Rea Cunnigan who played in 122 games for the Spartans.
