SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San José State's women's tennis team won in convincing fashion for a second consecutive day Sunday, dispatching Pacific 4-0 at Spartan Courts.
The Spartans (6-3), ranked No. 60 in the country, finished the grueling weekend with a 2-1 record and captured 10 of the last 11 points.
Sunday, they got a big victory from the tandem of Miyo Kobayashi and Justine Deleval at No. 3 doubles to break a tie and take home the doubles point. Miyo Kobayashi, Sybille Gauvain and Gaelle Rey kept it going in singles action and got San José State to the four points necessary to notch its sixth win of the spring.
Three matches were stopped once the Spartans reached four points, including No. 122 Marie Klocker's No. 1 singles match. She remains at 5-0 following a win and a pair of DNFs this weekend.
"The team finished on a strong note today. Players stepped up today when the team needed them," said head coach Chad Skorupka. "Gaelle Rey played focused tennis to clinch the match. Everyone participated in this victory today."
The Spartans will rest up for a couple days before preparing for next weekend's showdowns with UCSB and Cal Poly.
