Somers, Wis. --- San Jose State senior distance swimmer Riley Spitser was named TeamUnify / CollegeSwimming Conference Swimmer-of-the-Week out of the Mountain West for her outstanding performance against conference rival Fresno State Bulldogs.

"I am so happy for Riley. She has worked her tail off this year in the pool, weightroom, and classroom," said swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins. "Her performances in January are a great testament to the work she has put in, and are setting her up to have an amazing end of the season."

Earning three individual event wins in the 200-yard, 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyles, Spitser swam back-to-back events in the 1000 and 200 freestyle with less than five minute of rest, Spitser posted wins in both events to give the Spartans an early lead.

Spitser finished the meet with a huge win in the 400-yard freestyle relay to give the Spartans the victory over the Bulldogs. Spitser swam the first leg of the relay, posting a 100-yard freestyle time of 51.78, and was joined senior Brynne Beneke, sophomore Taylor Lehr and freshman Marley Maluafiti to bring home the win.

The senior distance swimmer has 20 individual event wins and nine relay event wins this season, tallying nine wins in the 500 freestyle, only losing to defending national champions California; eight in the 1000 freestyle, two in the 200 freestyle, seven in the 200 freestyle relay and two in the 400 freestyle relay.
