San Jose, Calif. - For her performance in San José State's 66-64 win at Fresno State on February 3, center Riana Byrd has earned Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played through Sunday, February 7. It is the first MW Player of the Week award of her career.

Byrd led all scorers with 17 points, grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, had two steals and blocked two shots. She came into the final period with 7:47 to play and scored eight of the team's next 12 point to turn a 55-47 deficit into a 59-59 tie. With the Spartans up 65-64 and 11 seconds to play, Byrd blocked the potential go-ahead shot and grabbed the rebound.

She reached the 1,000 career-point plateau on a layup with 5:37 left in the game and in doing so became the 14th player in San José State women's basketball history to reach milestone.

The senior from Richmond, Calif., played 26 minutes off the bench to lead the Spartans to their first win in Fresno since a 65-48 win 2001-02 season; a span of 12 games.
