Final Stats - New Mexico Final Stats - Grand Canyon
Phoenix, Ariz.--The San José State beach volleyball team traveled to Phoenix on Sunday for duals against New Mexico and Grand Canyon. The Spartans fell 4-1 against each opponent.
Giulia Gávio and Luiza Andrade picked up the only point for the Spartans against New Mexico. The par needed three sets for a 21-18, 18-21, 18-16 win over the Lobo pair. Hana Tresnáková and Julia Menhart also played a tough match in the top spot of the lineup, falling 16-21, 21-16, 16-14.
Three other Spartan pairs fell in straight sets - Allison Meehan and Jamie Hirai - 21-6, 21-6; Tyanna Roy and Lyndi Scholl - 21-15, 21-10; and Julia Golbeck and Julie Sam - 21-13, 21-15.
In the second dual of the day, Meehan and Hirai won 21-19, 21-17, recording San José State's only point against #10 Grand Canyon. Gávio and Andrade took their match to three sets before falling 22-20, 17-21, 15-10.
The other three Spartan pairs fell in straight sets - Tresnáková and Menhart - 21-15, 21-11; Roy and Scholl - 21-18, 21-13; and Golbeck and Sam 21-14, 21-15.
San José State is now 3-7 on the season and travels to the Sacramento area on Saturday, March 19, for matches against Sacramento State at 10 a.m. and Saint Mary's at 1 p.m. Matches will take place at the Livermore Community Park in Folsom.
