Rainy And Windy Bandon Trails Course Awaits Men's Golf

SAN JOSE, Calif.- After wrapping up play at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. last Tuesday, the San José State University men's golf team will have a quick turnaround as they play at The Bandon Dunes Championship in Oregon starting Sunday, March 6.

This is the seventh annual Bandon Dunes Championship, of which San José State will be playing for the sixth time. The par-71, 6,682 yard Bandon Trails course will host the tournament for the first time since 2012 as the tournament rotates between the resort's four courses (Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails and Old MacDonald Course) each year.

The field includes 12 schools: #39-Alabama-Birmingham, Boise State, #9-Clemson, Denver, #80-Missouri, #65-Oregon State, San Jose State, Seattle, Utah Valley, #30-Washington, Washington State, and host Gonzaga.

Inclement weather is forecasted for this year's championship with 100% chance of rain predicted for Sunday's first round with 20-plus mile wind conditions and 80% chance of rain for Monday and Tuesday's second and third rounds.

The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, from March 6-8, with 18 holes each day. The teams will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (PST) each day as the Spartans will be putting out a lineup of: Taylor Bromley, Kevin Velo, Scott Munger, Brett Thawley and Matthew Murray. Bradley Keyer and Henrik Sohlberg will play as individuals.

LAST TIME OUT:

The Spartans last competed on February 28 - March 1 at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. finishing 14th out of 14 teams.

The lineup featured Taylor Bromley, Scott Munger, Brett Thawley, Bradley Keyer and Kevin Velo. Keyer made his starting lineup debut. Matthew Murray played as an individual.

Velo had the low score for the Spartans for the second consecutive tournament shooting two-under 214, tying him for 16th place.

Bromley had his best finish in his Spartan career with a 34th place tie.

PREVIOUSLY AT THE BANDON DUNES CHAMPIONSHIP:

Former Spartan Cody Blick won at last year's Championship by one stroke shooting six-under 138, which was rain-shortened to 36-holes on the Bandon Dunes course.

This will be the sixth consecutive appearance for the Spartans at The Bandon Dunes Championship, where their previous best finish was sixth place in 2011 and 2015, both played on the Bandon Dunes Course.

Bromley, Munger and Thawley played at last year's championship.

The Spartans played on the Bandon Trails Course once, in 2012, where they finished ninth.
