Reiswig Dives at NCAA Zone Championships

March 6, 2016

San Jose, Calif. --- Qualifying in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, San Jose State sophomore Cari Reiswig diving season continues at the three day NCAA Zone E Diving Championships beginning Monday in Flagstaff, Ariz.

"Cari has a great chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championships," said San Jose State diving coach Mark Butcher. "Cari doing her best at this meet comes down to confidence and a belief in the process we took to get her."

Reiswig posted a qualifying score of 301.75 in the 1-meter springboard in a three-way meet with UC Santa Cruz and Cal Lutheran, setting the Spartans' all-time mark in the six dive format. Qualifying in the 3-meter springboard in the first meet of the season at California with a score of 289.95, Reiswig went on to post a season high score of 319.20 at the Mountain West Championships.

"This meet won't be too big for her. She's been here before, she now understands what to expect," Butcher said.

As a freshman, Reiswig finished 35th in the 1-meter dive and 43rd in the 3-meter competition at the Zone Championships.

Having qualified in the 1-meter with a score of 293.59 versus UC Santa Cruz and Cal Lutheran, sophomore Kylie Fonseca made the trip to Flagstaff, Ariz. with Reiswig but will not compete after sustaining a season ending injury earlier this season.

"We've brought Kylie with us for both experience and moral support," Butcher said.

The Zone Championships kick off with the 1-meter preliminary round at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Northern Arizona University.
