Coach Butcher is in his 10th year at the helm of the diving program for the Spartans. Over his tenure, Butcher has coached divers to postseason Zone Championships every year, including multiple finalists. Divers under Coach Butcher’s tutelage have broken every record and hold 90% of the top 10 scores in every diving event. In 2017, Butcher coached 3M record holder Cari Reiswig to a World Championship Trials qualification. In 2023In coach Butcher’s 2nd year back with the Spartans after a 3 year hiatus, Freshman Jenna Jagielski broke the school record on platform and was 1st team all MWC on the 3M and Platform. Jenna also won a Sammy award for “Best Individual Performance” for Women’s Sports.
Prior to coaching the Spartans, Coach Butcher was the Program Director and Head Coach at the Santa Clara Diving Club and Head Coach at Dive Oklahoma. Early in his career, Coach Butcher spent 4 years in Indianapolis helping build a satellite system for the burgeoning US
Diving National Training Center. During his time in Indianapolis, coach Butcher was fortunate enough to work under two exceptional coaches who would later become an Olympic coach and the Head Coach for the US Diving World Junior National team in 2022, respectively.
In his free time, Coach Butcher loves to read and watch hours of diving video each day. Butcher has a 9 year old daughter who is the light of his life.
