Flagstaff, Ariz.----- San Jose State University senior Cari Reiswig was the Spartans' top finisher with her 17th place finish in the 1-meter springboard event at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on the Northern Arizona University campus.
From a field of 59 divers, Reiswig finished with a 516.05 total for 12 dives. She was the 17th out of 18 qualifiers for the finals after six dives with a 256.15 score. Reiswig remained in 17th and finished with a 516.05 total.
For Reiswig, she placed 17th for the second year in a row. As a sophomore in 2016, she was 16th.
Reiswig led a Spartan contingent that included senior Kylie Fonseca and sophomore Natasha Sondeno. Fonseca was 44th with her six-dive score of 217.40. Sondeno was 40th at 223.90. A 255.40 score was good for the 18th qualifying spot in the championship final.
"All three divers put on an impressive performance today. The field included an Olympian, USA Diving national champions, national team members, NCAA finalists and a NCAA champion," said San Jose State diving coach Mark Butcher.
"Cari came out with one of her best performances of the season. Kylie and Tasha both had strong showings. We look forward to another opportunity to show our `Spartan Pride' on 3-meter tomorrow."
The top nine finishers advance to the NCAA Championships next weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Nevada's Sharae Zheng was first at 647.35. A 551.90 was good for ninth place and the final NCAA Championships 1-meter diving qualifying spot.
The NCAA Zone E Diving Championships continue on March 6 at 11:00 a.m. (MT) with 3-meter diving and conclude on March 7 with platform diving. All three Spartans are competing in the March 6 3-meter event.
