Flagstaff, Ariz. --- Posting her best finish at the NCCA Zone E Diving Championships, San Jose State sophomore Cari Reiswig placed 14th in the 3-meter springboard at the Douglas J. Wall Aquatic Center.
"I think her showing at the Zone Championships speaks to her sense of perseverance and ability to work through several hurdles this year, including having to dive outside in the elements every night during practice," said San Jose State diving coach Mark Butcher.
Advancing to the final grouping in consecutive days, Reiswig tallied a score of 283.55 with her final six dives. The two-time Spartan record holder scored a 282.45 in prelims to be one of 18 to move on to the finale.
"Her score improved from prelims but the judging got a little tighter in the finals. The numbers don't really show how much better she performed in the finals." Butcher said.
Reiswig is the first Spartan to make the final round at the Zone Diving Championships in three years. On Monday she placed 16th in the 1-meter springboard after making the finals.
"Having our first Zone finalist in three years definitely helps to bring some needed recognition to our program," Butcher said. "This is especially true when comparing how we did against other California schools."
The sophomore missed an NCAA Diving Championship invitation by three spots, with the top 11 divers advancing. Last season Reiswig finished 43 in the 3-meter dive at the Zone Championships.
