Men's Golf Returns To Arizona For The Mountain West Championship

April 20, 2016

Round 1 Pairings & Tee Times

SAN JOSE, Calif.
- The San José State Men's Golf Team will compete at the Mountain West Golf Championship from April 22-24 at the Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Ariz.

The 54-hole tournament will be contested by all 11 Mountain West teams on the par-72, 7,194-yard Catalina Course, which has the distinction of being selected as one of Golf Digest's "75 Best Golf Resorts in North America". In addition to hosting the Mountain West Men's Golf Championship since 2007, it was home to the PGA Tour's Tucson Open.

Three of the competing schools are ranked in GolfStat's top-40, including defending champion #22-San Diego State as well as #29-UNLV and #38-New Mexico.

Individually, five golfers are ranked in GolfStat's top-100, led by a trio of San Diego State Aztecs, #13-Nahum Mendoza III, #42-Ryann Ree and #55-Riccardo Michelini. The UNLV tandem of #68-John Oda and #98-Shintaro Ban round out the list.

This will be the third time the Spartans will be competing at the Mountain West Championship where they have twice finished in 7th place. A Spartan lineup featuring Taylor Bromley, Kevin Velo, Scott Munger, Matthew Murray and Bradley Keyer will look to improve upon it this year.

Back in February 28-March 1 of this year, the Spartans played on the same Catalina Course at the National Invitational Tournament, finishing 14th out of 14 teams. The lineup featured the same players with the exception of Brett Thawley starting in place of Matthew Murray, who played as an individual.

Velo had the low score for the Spartans at two-under 214, tying him for 16th place. Bromley finished tied for 34th for his best finish in his Spartan career. Keyer made his Spartan starting debut in the N.I.T. tournament.

Friday's Mountain West Championship opening round tee-time for the Spartans is at 9:40 a.m. MT. The rest of the first round pairings are as follows:
