April 20, 2016 Indianapolis, Ind.----- San Jose State University's Academic Progress Rate (APR) multi-year scores for the 2014-15 period as reported by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) include an all-time best three intercollegiate programs with Public Recognition awards in one year, five with an all-time best score, eight at or above the national average for its sport and 12 of 17 programs with scores of 970 or higher out of 1,000.
The APR is a real-time measure of eligibility and retention by NCAA Division I student-athletes and became the NCAA's primary academic success measurement in 2003. The highest possible score is 1,000 and a 930 score projects to approximately a 50 percent Graduation Success Rate according to NCAA data experts. This year's APR Report covers the academic years 2012 through 2015 and lists all of San Jose State's intercollegiate athletics programs but beach volleyball and men's water polo, each with less than four years of recent academic history.
"Today's announcement is a continuation of the positive news this spring created by our student-athletes, coaches and academic support staff through their academic successes. We are proud of these academic accomplishments," says San Jose State University athletics director Gene Bleymaier.

Football's 964 remained above the 2016 national average of 959. San Jose State received a 2015 post-season invitation to play in and eventually win the inaugural AutoNation Cure Bowl based on its 2015 APR multi-year score.
For the fifth consecutive year, San Jose State's APR score in football is ahead of California State University (CSU) system schools San Diego State (962) and Fresno State (953) that play in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Spartans also are third out of seven among the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) playing members based in the state of California trailing Stanford (983) and UCLA (972).
