Irving, Texas----- For the fourth consecutive year, a San Jose State University football player was named to the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society.
Three-year starting offensive tackle Wes Schweitzer is among 868 players from 275 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) institutions from all levels to earn the annual honor.
A biochemistry major, Schweitzer qualified for the award based on maintaining at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average throughout a college career, being a significant player on the Spartans' 2015 AutoNation Cure Bowl winning team and meeting progress towards his bachelor's degree.
The 2015 second-team All-Mountain West selection also was named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VIII selection last fall. A starter in 38 games for the Spartans, 37 of them consecutively since the 2013 season, Schweitzer was one of four co-captains on last year's team and a four-time academic all-conference honoree.
Wes is a native of Scottsdale, Ariz.
