Baltimore, Md.----- San Jose State University football returning starter Kenny Potter is one of 43 quarterbacks named to the 2016 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List.

The senior from San Pedro, Calif., was the most accurate passer in the Mountain West last season. A starter in 10 games, Potter completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 1,964 yards and 15 touchdowns. He ranked 34th nationally in passing efficiency with a 142.28 rating. The second-year Spartan is one of four team captains for the 2016 season and one of two conference quarterbacks on the watch list. Colorado State's Nick Stevens is the other.

The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award was established in 1987 and is named after the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrine who quarterbacked the successful Baltimore Colts teams from the mid-1950's into the early-1970's. The award honors the nation's top college quarterback based on character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments. Candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class.

Potter and his teammates begin fall preseason practice, Friday, August 5, in preparation for the upcoming season. The University of Tulsa is the season-opening opponent on September 3. San Jose State's first home game is September 10 vs. Portland State. Tickets are available through www.sjsuspartans.com.
