Minneapolis, Minn.----- Marie Klocker and Sybille Gauvain, ranked 47th nationally as a doubles team in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, won both of their matches and four of San Jose State University's six singles advanced to a championship semifinal round on the second day of the Gopher Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Klocker and Gauvain were winners over Marquette's Diana Tokar and Paula Tomos Sanchez, 6-1, and Minnesota's Tina Krenis and AnneMarie Emme, 6-2.

Klocker, a senior from Mulhouse, France, was undefeated on the day adding a pair of singles victories. In her first singles match of the season, she he needed a 10-4 tiebreaker to defeat Iasmin Rosa of South Dakota State after the two had split a pair of sets. Klocker is 6-0 in the tournament and moved into fifth place on the San Jose State list for career wins at 116.

Sophomore Miyo Kobayashi and freshmen Diane Flament and Tamara Culibrk also advanced to semifinal round action in the championship side of their singles brackets with two victories.

"I was pleased to see four players advance to the semifinals in their singles flights," said San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka who noted rain forced the players to play most of their singles matches indoors. "I feel the team really responded well moving indoors."

The four-day tournament resumes with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles on September 24.
