Fairfax, Calif. --- The San José State University men's golf team started the day in 13th place and held on to 13th at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal.

The tournament at Meadow Club featured 15 teams on the par 71 6,734-yard golf course. After 54 holes of play the Spartans finished with a four-over par team score of 856. Arizona State, which had the low team score in the final round, sealed the win with a final team score of 31-under par 821. Capturing individual honors was Ki Taek Lee from Arizona State and Conner Kumpula from Oregon State who tied with a final score of 15-under 198.

"It was a tough day out there and they hung in there," said San José States head coach John Kennaday. "We've got to stop wasting strokes around the greens"

Junior Matthew Murray led the Spartans in placing 31st with a total score of two under par 211. He shot the opening and closing rounds under par. Murray was especially good on the par five holes, shooting nine-under with three eagles which was second best in the tournament.

Scott Munger was tied for 41st with an even-par 213. Tied at 61st is Sean Talmadge with a final score of two-under 218 on the tournament. Talmadge ended the three-day event posting 39 pars which was third most in the tournament.

Tied at 67th are teammates Kevin Velo and William Barnett who both finished the tournament with a final score of six-over 219.

San José State is next in action at Price's Give `Em Five Invitational in El Paso, Texas for a three-day tournament starting on October 28th.
