Second Round of Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Cancelled

Las Vegas, Nev.-For the second consecutive tournament, the San Jose State women's golf team found themselves at another shortened tournament due to weather, this time the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown was cancelled on Monday due to lightning and storms in the area.

The second round was delayed for more than four hours because of lightning and storms in the area. Officials called the round after it was determined that more storm cells were headed to the area.

The 19-team field will play the final round on Tuesday, October 25, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

The Spartans are currently fifth at seven-under 281. Franziska Friedrich leads the team with a four-under 68 and is tied for fifth place. My Leander is tied for 15th at two-under 70, while Elizabeth Schultz is tied for 26th at one-under 71. Alexandra Cooper shot an even par 72 to tie for 36th, while Abegail Arevalo is tied for 88th at four-over 76.

A week ago, San Jose State played at the Stanford Intercollegiate where the third round was cancelled on October 16, because of storms that brought rain to the Bay Area.

This is the final tournament for the Spartans this fall. The team next plays at the Peg Barnard Intercollegiate hosted by Stanford on February 11 and 12, 2017, at the Stanford Golf Course.
