Second Round Results and Stats
El Paso Texas--- The San Jose State University men's golf team capitalized on round one at Price's Give 'Em Five Men's Golf Invitational posting a one-under par 287 in round two of the tournament. This is the second best round the Men's golf team has had this season.
After two rounds of play the Spartans have an 11-over par 587 to tie for sixth place in the tournament on the par-72, 7,307-yard Butterfield Trail Golf Club.
Competing individually and not counting toward the team score is Matthew Ashley who finished off his second day of the tournament tied for 11th place with a two-under par 142. In round two of the tournament Ashley shot an even par 72 with four birdies on the day.
Also competing individually are teammates Sean Talmadge and Henrik Sohlberg. Sean Talmadge is tied for 24th place and is one-over par 147 on the tournament. In round two he shot a three-over par 75. Henrik Sohlberg is at seven-over par 151 and in 54th place in the tournament after he shot a two-over par 74 in round two of the tournament.
Leading the team in round two was Scott Munger and Matthew Murray who both posted a one-under par 71. Scott Munger is tied for 17th shooting six birdies in round two and has a total score of one-under par 143 after two rounds of play. After two rounds of play Matthew Murray is tied for 24th place and has a total score of one-over par 145.
2015-16 MVP Kevin Velo finds himself tied for 28th in the tournament with a total score of two-over par 146. Velo shot the lowest round on the day for the Spartans with a three-under par 69 and capped off his day with an eagle on the 18th hole of the course.
"We made an improvement" said Head Coach John Kennaday. "We made strides and I thought we stayed to our gameplan"
Charles Thompson has a total score of 11-over 155 and is tied for 64th. Teammate William Barnett is close behind tied at 69th place with a total score of 16-over par 160.
Leading the tournament in first place is host UTEP with a total score of 20-under par 556. There are currently three players tied for first in the tournament. In first place at eight under par is Zander Lozano from UTSA and Andres Sorenson and Prescott Mann from UTEP.
