WAC Release

ENGLEWOOD, Co. -- Jonathan Partida, who played the defensive center midfield position in a pair of road wins at Air Force and UMKC last week, has been named the Western Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 24.

With the two wins, the Spartans put themselves in position to earn a WAC Tournament berth if they win against UTRGV this coming Saturday, November 5.

Partida, a sophomore midfielder from Newark, Calif., protected the Spartan defense with his incredible work rate, playing the entire 90 minutes in both matches.

Against Air Force, the San José State defense shut down the Falcons' high powered offense which entered the match having scored the third most goals in the nation (37) and fifth in the nation in scoring offense per match (2.31), winning 1-0. Air Force was held without a shot in the second half and Spartan goalkeeper Nedin Tucakovic did not face a save opportunity in any of the Falcons' nine shots during the game.

At UMKC, Partida and the the Spartans limited the Roos to just six shots in the match, including just three on goal.

This is Partida's first WAC Player of the Week, defensive or offensive, honor of his San José State career.
