Men's Golf Competing in Alister Mackenzie Invitational

San Jose Calif. - Following its best finish of the season, the San José State University men's golf team will compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif., October 10 & 11.

Spartans head coach John Kennaday is excited for the 54-hole tournament on the par 71, 6,734-yard course.

"We're very honored to be playing in this tournament. We have a long history in it and we're really looking forward to it," says Kennaday.

The 15-team field includes Arizona State, BYU, #25 Cal, Fresno State, Loyola-Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Saint Mary's, #15 San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, and Washington.

Players are scheduled to play 36 holes on October 10 and 18 holes on October 11.

Competing for the Spartans: Scott Munger, Kevin Velo, William Barnett, Matthew Murray, and Sean Talmadge.

Last time out: The Spartans were third in the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa, at two-under par 862. Matthew Murray led the Spartans with a career best three-under par 213 and sixth-place finish. Scott Munger was 12th with a one-under 215. William Barnett and Kevin Velo tied for 26th with a four-over par 220. Sean Talmadge returned from injury to shoot a final round 74 that helped the Spartans to their third place finish.

Previously at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational: This will be the sixth consecutive year for the Spartans in the Alister Mackenzie Invitational. The Spartans placed 15th last season with a 54-hole score of 885.
