MORAGA, Calif. - The San José women's tennis team had a long day at the Saint Mary's College Fall Invitational. In a bright spot, freshman Tamara Culibrk won both of her singles matches and advanced to the semifinals of her bracket.
"We had a very bad day on the courts today," said SJSU head coach Chad Skorupka. "We didn't play the big points with intensity and the results speak for themselves. We are looking forward to Tamara playing in the semifinals of her flight tomorrow."
Culibrk defeated Sofia Gulnova of Sacramento State, 6-3, 6-1 in her first match of the day. She went on to win, 6-3, 6-4, against Cal Poly's Claire Bouquetto to secure her spot in the "B" bracket semifinals. Her semifinals match takes place Sunday, October 8 at 10:30 a.m. Freshman Diane Flament was forced to withdraw from her "B" bracket match due to injury.
In "A" bracket singles, sophomore Miyo Kobayashi fell 7-5, 6-1, to Jacqueline Pelletier of Saint Mary's.
In doubles action, senior Marine Dans and Kobayashi were defeated by Pelletier and Jana McCord of Saint Mary's 8-4 in the "A" bracket semifinals match.
In the "B" bracket, Culibrk and Flament were forced to retire due to injury while playing Kristina Breisacher and Isabella Von Ebbe of UC Davis.
