Men's Water Polo Set for Conference Tournament

Nov. 16, 2016

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men's water polo team will travel to Stockton, Calif. for the second straight week this Friday, November 18 to take on #7 Long Beach State at 6:00 p.m. in the first game of the Golden Coast Conference tournament.

The two teams met recently on November 4 with the 49ers (14-8, 3-2) defeating the Spartans (7-19, 0-5), 13-7.

The Spartans are coming off a hard fought 18-11 loss last Friday, November 11 in Stockton to Pacific.

SJSU was led in that match by freshmen Ashley Castle, who scored a career-high four goals, and Ben Hauschild who added a pair of goals and three assists.

Hauschild also notched another steal which places him third in the nation in steals this season with 49. The Santa Barbara native ends the regular season as the conference leader in steals.

Goalie Conrad Gordon, also a freshman, notched 13 saves last time out just a week after recording a career-high 17 saves against then top-ranked UCLA.

The 49ers are riding a three game winning streak that began with their win against the Spartans on November 4. LBSU defeated #18-UC Irvine, 10-6, in their last match.

San José State is seeded sixth in the tournament and Long Beach State is seeded third.

If San José State can pull out a win on Friday, they will have doubled their win total form last year - their first year as a program since 1982. They would then play at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, against #2-seed Pacific.

If the Spartans drop the match to Long Beach State, SJSU will play the loser of #4-seed Pepperdine and #5-seed UC Irvine at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

UC Santa Barbara clinched the top ranking in the tournament with an 18-6 overall record. The Gauchos went undefeated in conference play, winning all five of their GCC matches, and are ranked fourth in the nation.

All of the games for the tournament will be streamed live. Links are available on the men's water polo section of SJSUSpartans.com. The link to stream the first SJSU game is: http://www.pacifictigers.com/ sports/m-wpolo/xGCC-1
