The San Jose State University women's water polo team returns to action after a week off as one of five teams in the California Speedo Cup I tournament hosted by the University of California, Saturday, January 28.
The #17-Spartans (1-3) open the tournament facing #14-Long Beach State (0-0) in a 9:00 a.m. match at the new Legends Aquatics Center on the Cal campus. San Jose State is coming off a 10-9 win over UC Davis to conclude the LouStrong Invitational. Carla Toha Vilanova with three goals was one of seven Spartans to score and goalkeeper Katelynn Thompson stopped eight shots including one in the final seconds to preserve the victory.
The Spartans conclude the day facing #22-CSUN (1-3) at 2:30 p.m.
A year ago, San Jose State defeated Long Beach State, 9-6, in the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite and CSUN, 13-8, in the ZUMO LMU Invitational.
The five-team tournament also includes #19-UC Davis.
