Seal Beach, Calif.-Suspended due to darkness, the San José State women's golf team holds an 11-shot lead over BYU in the second round of The Gold Rush presented by Tantalum at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif.
The Spartans shot a one-over 289 in the first round and had a four-shot lead over BYU. The team has completed 16-17 holes and is three-under par so far in the second round.
Individually, My Leander leads the tournament at seven-under with two holes remaining. She shot her seventh under-par round in the first round with a 69 and had a one-shot lead over Sophie Hausmann from Idaho. Hausmann is now three shots behind Leander.
Abegail Arevalo and Elizabeth Schultz are tied for 10th at three-over par, while Franziska Friedrich is tied for 25th at six-over par. Alexandra Cooper rebounded from a +10 first round and is currently at one-under par through 16 holes of round two. She is tied for 39th at nine-over par. Arielle Caronna, playing as an individual, is tied for 73rd at +16.
"This was a good effort on a long day by everyone," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "I am happy with how we stuck to the game plan regarding the hole locations."
The Spartans will finish the second round Tuesday at 7:45 a.m., before starting the third round.
