HONOLULU - After a pair of one-run losses the last two games, the San Jose State University baseball team lost 14-1 to the University of Hawaii on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Spartans went winless during the non-conference four-game series and now stand with a record of 9-14. Hawaii improved to 15-8.
The Rainbow Warriors jumped on the Spartans early, scoring three runs in the second inning off SJSU starter Graham Gomez on three hits, including two doubles, and a walk.
The 'Bows tacked on a run in the third and fourth innings before the Spartans got on board in the top of the sixth.
SJSU's lone run of the game came on a Shane Timmons RBI single (1-for-4, RBI) to drive home Joseph Stefanki (1-for-3, R) to make it a 5-1 game.
Hawaii added six runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning and added three more in the eighth for the final score of 14-1.
Nine pitchers were utilized by the Spartans with Gomez taking the loss. He is now 0-1 on the season.
Jackson Rees picked up the win for Hawaii, going eight innings and allowing just one run on five hits to pick up his third win of the season against zero loss.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, March 29 to take on Santa Clara at Municipal Stadium. First pitch is 7:00 p.m. PT.
