Women's Water Polo Loses At #2-Stanford, 17-3

Stanford, Calif.----- #2-ranked Stanford University scored the first three goals of the match and never trailed in a 17-3 win over San Jose State University in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular-season finale for both teams.

The #16-ranked Spartans (10-17, 1-5 MPSF) trailed 7-1 at halftime and 14-3 after three quarters.

"They (Stanford) make you pay for any mistake you make. They converted all their opportunities really well," said San Jose State head coach Gabor Sarusi about the team's 10th game this season against a team ranked in the top-five nationally.

Klaudia Paradi, Donia Momen and Jennifer Liu scored for the Spartans.

Jordan Raney and Jamie Neushul of Stanford (18-2, 5-1 MPSF) shared match-high scoring honors with four each.

Katelynn Thompson played the first half in goal for San Jose State and was credited with four saves. Tayler Peters made two saves in the second half as the Spartans' goalkeeper.

San Jose State now has its sights set on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament, Friday through Sunday, April 28-30, hosted by conference champion UCLA. The Spartans' first opponent will be the University of Southern California on April 28 at 12:45 p.m.
