#5-Cal Women's Water Polo Pulls Away From Spartans, 12-6

Saratoga, Calif.----- Michelle Taikeff led San Jose State University with two goals, but the University of California pulled away in the second half for a 12-6 win in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo match.

Anna Ilies and Stefanie Mutafyan scored three times each for the Golden Bears (14-6, 2-3 MPSF). Emma Wright, Rachel Lewin and Dora Antal each added a pair of scores as #5-California defeated #16-San Jose State for the fourth time this season.

San Jose State (9-14, 0-3 MPSF) scored first on a McKenna Yates goal at the 4:36 mark of the first quarter. Despite allowing five unanswered goals, the Spartans battled back to trail 5-4 at halftime on power play goals by Taikeff, Jacqui Maisey and Donia Momen. For the match, the Spartans were 3-for-9 on the power play.

The Golden Bears pulled away in the second half on consecutive goals by Wright, Antal and Lewin.

San Jose State's Katelynn Thompson was credited with 10 saves. Madeline Trabucco started in goal for Cal and made five saves. Madison Tagg played the second half in goal for the Golden Bears and stopped two Spartan shots.

San Jose State returns to action, Saturday, April 15, at Arizona State in a 1:00 p.m. (MT) MPSF match.
