Rios Scores Twice As Spartans Top UC Davis, 3-2

San Jose, Calif.----- Junior Andy Rios scored twice and Jeremy Romero, once, in the first half as San Jose State University defeated UC Davis, 3-2, in a non-conference men's soccer match.

Rios opened the scoring at 4:34 on a penalty kick and closed the first-half for the Spartans (1-1) with his second goal of the match at 44:45 on assists by Max Allen and Miguel Castillo.

Allen also assisted on Romero's first goal of the season at 15:10. Carlos Valdivinos joined Allen in the assist column on Romero's goal.

UC Davis (1-2) made it close in the final six minutes as Miguel Acevedo scored twice in a 2:07 span. His first goal came at 84:37 off of a throw in. Then, at 86:44, Acevedo scored off of a cross from Jacob Rudolph for the final tally of the match.

San Jose State goalkeeper Chris Donaldson made three saves in the match. UC Davis' Wallis Lapsley started in goal and allowed all three Spartan scores. Lapsley made one save. Reserve UC Davis goalkeeper Jon Laughlin made two saves in the second half.

San Jose State closes out the weekend hosting Sacramento State in a non-conference match, Sunday, September 3, at 3:00 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
