San Diego, Calif.----- Junior Miyo Kobayashi and sophomore Clara Mantaux each won their championship semifinal round singles matches for the San Jose State University women's tennis team on the second day of the SDSU Fall Tennis Classic I.
Kobayashi defeated Maria Paula Torres of the University of San Diego in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Mantaux needed a third set tiebreaker to overtake Mia Smith of San Diego State, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (6).
Mantaux and Kobayashi were two-time winners on the day for the Spartans. Mantaux and teammate Laura Malsert won their second doubles match of the tournament defeating Cal State Northridge's Arpe Bagumyan and Elisaveta Nosenko, 6-2.
Kobayashi and her partner, freshman Savannah Sendar, won their consolation doubles match over UTEP's Maria Paula Medina & Milenia Baigorria (UTEP), 6-1.
The three-day tournament concludes with a series of singles and doubles matches beginning at 9:30 a.m. on October 1.
