San Jose, Calif. - Four Spartans scored in double figures, led by Myzhanique Ladd's 12 points and 10 rebounds, as the San José State women's basketball team cruised to an 83-72 victory against the Stanislaus State Warriors in an exhibition game on Walt McPherson Court on Sunday.
In addition to her double double, Ladd also had five assists and five steals. Fieme'a Hafoka and freshman Mikaylah Wilson scored 11 points each and Taylor Turney added 10.
The Spartans were never threatened taking a 10-7 lead on an Analyss Benally three-pointer with 3:14 left in the opening period. They got the advantage to double digits on another Benally three with 3:07 left before halftime and had a 41-32 advantage at the intermission.
The Warriors tied the game at 49-49 with 2:47 to go in the third, but Hallie Gennett drained a three and the Spartans were off and running again. Benally and Gennett each finished the game with nine points, both shooting 3-of-7 from behind the arc.
SJSU pushed the lead to a game-high 19 points on a Turney layup with 7:53 to go in the fourth quarter before finishing the game with the 11-point victory.
Courtesy Clark scored three points and pulled down seven boards. Cydni Lewis had six rebounds and five points and in addition to her 11 points, Wilson grabbed six rebound
Neither team was particularly effective from the floor, each shooting 36 percent, and San Jose State was just 9-of-35 (25.7 percent) from behind the three-point line.
The Spartans open the regular season on Friday, November 10 at #7 UCLA. Tip off in Pauley Pavilion is set for 7:00 p.m.
