Addison, Texas ------ Two-time honorable mention All-Mountain West safety Maurice McKnight will be the first San Jose State player participating in a 2018 post-season all-star setting January 6-10 at the College Gridiron Showcase.
McKnight was a co-captain of the 2016 and 2017 Spartan football teams, started 40 games and was credited with 322 tackles in his career, #10 on the San Jose State career list.
In 2017, he was one of four Spartans to start in every game. McKnight was second on the squad in total tackles with 88. He had a season-high 11 tackles in the San Diego State and Colorado State contests. His one forced fumble came in the Cal Poly victory.
The College Gridiron Showcase, now in its fourth year, uses an OTA (Off-season Training Activity) pro-team format to evaluate players interested in a professional football career. Practices and controlled scrimmages are the norm without a game at the end of the week. Two groups totaling 152 players were named to the 2018 College Gridiron Showcase.
McKnight is the second San Jose State player in the last two seasons to accept an invitation to the College Gridiron Showcase. In 2017, tight end Billy Freeman participated.
