Hayward, Calif.----- Jamie Dodd and Colleen Humel each won two individual races leading San Jose State University to a 153.00--106.00 win over Cal State University East Bay in a non-conference women's swimming meet.
Dodd finished first in the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle as the Spartans (5-2) had nine first-place finishes in the 14-event format. It was the second time this season Dodd won the 200 fly and 500 free in a dual meet. She first notched the double triumph in the November 4 dual meet win over UC Santa Cruz.
Humel now has a 16-race winning streak in the backstroke placing first in the 100 and 200 back.
Gabby Heng in the 50 free, Brenna Bushey in the 100 butterfly and Violani Auva'a in the 200 individual medley also finished first for the Spartans. San Jose State also won the 200 medley and 200 free relay races. Humel and Bushey in the 200 medley relay and Gabby Heng in the 200 free relay added to their individual win totals on the day.
"We are really emphasizing the fine tuning or our details and race strategies and I felt we did a great job executing that today," said San Jose State swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins about the team improving its dual meet record to 5-2.
The Spartans have two more weeks of dual meet action this season. San Jose State heads to UC Davis for a January 20 dual meet. First race is at noon.
