Tucson, Ariz.--The San José State beach volleyball team opened the 2018 season with two wins against Abilene Christian Saturday at the Cactus Classic hosted by the University of Arizona.
In the first dual against Abilene Christian, all five Spartan pairs swept their opponents in two sets. Nandyala Gama and Lyndi Scholl played in the number-one position, winning 21-10, 21-14. Ciara Reistad and Julia Golbeck won 21-8, 21-16 in the second position. Jamie Hirai and Hayley Sturgeon played in the third position and got a 21-9, 21-13 win. Thaliana Grajeda and Luiza Andrade won 21-16, 21-11 in the fourth position, and Summer Avery and Breann Robinson won 21-10, 21-16 in the fifth position.
San José State won 5-0 in the second dual against Abilene Christian on Saturday.
The Spartans play Benedictine Mesa and Arizona Sunday afternoon to conclude the Cactus Classic.
