San Jose, Calif.-- Savannah Sendar, Jackie Wagner and Miyo Kobayashi won straight-sets singles matches to lead San Jose State University to a 4-1 win over Sacramento State University in a non-conference women's tennis match at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
The win for the Spartans (9-2) was their fifth in a row.
Playing at #3 doubles for San Jose State, Tamara Culibrk and Clara Mantaux teamed up to defeat Sofia Gulnova and Jenna Dorian, 6-2. The duo of Wagner and Sendar secured the doubles point for the Spartans after topping Sacramento State's Shamika Dhar and Ana Loaiza Esquivias, 6-2.
"We played some very good doubles today. After taking the one point lead into the singles, we only needed to win three singles matches. We need to play a little sharper and finish sets when we are leading. Hats off to Savannah for staying undefeated in singles play this spring," said San Jose State University head coach Chad Skorupka.
In singles, playing at the #5-position, Sendar defeated Loaiza Esquivas, 6-2, 6-2. Wagner, playing at #4-position, beat Dorian in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Kobayashi, at the #2-position, clinched the match for San Jose State beating Maria Gonzalez, 7-5, 6-0.
San Jose State aims for a six-match winning streak when it will play at the Saint Mary's, on Friday, March 16, starting at 1:00 p.m.
