Berkeley, Calif.- The San José State beach volleyball team dropped a pair of duals on Saturday, losing 3-2 to Pacific and 5-0 to #19 California in Berkeley.
Against Pacific, the Spartans started the day with a win at the number-five position as Thaliana Grajeda and Jamie Hirai won 29-27, 21-18. Nandyala Gama and Lyndi Scholl collected the team's other win at the number-one spot at 21-17 and 21-19. Laura Parts and Kaitlynn Zdroik went three sets in their match before falling 21-17, 16-21, 15-9.
The Spartans were swept in all five matches against the Golden Bears. Gama and Scholl fell 21-17, 21-19, while Julia Golbeck and Ciara Reistad lost 21-15, 211-2. Parts and Zdroik, in the third position, fell 21-16, 21-12. Breann Robinson and Luiza Andrade played together in the fourth spot and fell 21-15, 22-20. Grajea and Hirai lost 21-16, 21-16.
The Spartans are now 5-8 on the season and play twice on Sunday in Monterey. The team faces #10 Arizona at 11 a.m., and Santa Clara at 2 p.m.
