Arevalo, Cooper Tied For First After Two Rounds Of MountainView Collegiate

Tucson, Ariz.-Spartan women's golfers Abegail Arevalo and Alexandra Cooper are part of a quartet of golfers tied for first after the second round of the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. San José State remained in second place after shooting a 301 and are two shots back of Kansas.

Arevalo shot a one-over 73 in the second round to finish the day at one-under 143. She started the round with 12 consecutive pars and made a birdie on #13 to one-under. Arevalo then made back-to-back bogeys to go to +1 and made three consecutive pars to end her round.

Cooper made just two birdies during her second round but continues to lead the tournament in birdies made with nine. She started even through 12 holes with a birdie on #3 and a bogey on #4. Cooper ended her round with four bogeys, two par and a birdie on #15 to shoot a two-over 74.

Ysabel Tran shot a four-over 76 in the second round and is now tied for 20th at five-over 149. She made 13 pars and a birdie during her round.

Elizabeth Schultz shot a six-over 78 and is tied for 53rd at 156. She had a good start to her round, going even through the first 12 holes with 10 pars, a bogey and a birdie. Unfortunately, she went six-over over the last six holes of the day.

Franziska Friedrich rounded out the Spartan scoring with a 10-over 82 and is now tied for 68th at 160.

Overall, the Spartans remained in second place after shooting a 301 in the second round. The team made just five birdies during the round. The teams playing later in the day were also affected by gusty winds.

"We had a rough back-nine today. The wind was a factor. We made too many big numbers and did not make many putts today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.

Final round action begins Sunday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The Spartans will start on holes 1-3 with Kansas and Central Arkansas.
