Reiswig With Second Top-20 Finish; Fonseca, 33rd At NCAA Zone Championships

Flagstaff, Ariz.----- Compared to a year ago at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships, San Jose State University seniors Cari Reiswig and Kylie Fonseca had higher qualifying round scores in the 3-meter springboard event.

Reiswig, 17th in the 1-meter event a day earlier, had her second top-20 finish at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships held on the Northern Arizona University campus by placing 19th with her score of 274.15.

Reiswig's 3-meter finish was two places better than her 21st place standing in 2017. She was 14th in the same event in 2016.

Fonseca was 33rd with her score of 247.20. At last year's NCAA Zone E Championships, the senior from Gilbert, Ariz., was 41st scoring 239.85. Fonseca began this year's Zone Championships 44th in 1-meter diving.

The top 18 finishers moved on to a six-dive final competition. Nevada's Tamara Shmitova was the 18th qualifier with a 280.50 score, 6.35 points better than Reiswig.

Nevada's Sharae Zheng won the 3-meter competition with a 762.35 score, her second victory of the meet. The top nine finishers from the 18 finalists are advancing to the NCAA Championships next week in Columbus, Ohio.

The NCAA Zone E Championships conclude on March 7 with platform diving. Reiswig and Spartan sophomore Natasha Sondeno are among the 65+ divers competing for one of eight Zone Championships spots at the NCAA Championships
