San José State University softball player Madison Aurin and baseball's Brett Bautista are the Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month for March, presented by O'Connor Hospital.
Aurin led the softball team to a 14-3 overall record and an 8-1 MW mark in March. In the circle, she went 8-1 with a 1.98 ERA for the month. She tossed six complete games with two shutouts in eight starts. In her 13 appearances, she figured in 10 decisions with an 8-1 record and two saves. In 60.0 innings she gave up just 17 earned runs and walked just 10. She was the winner in the Spartans 7-3 win over #21 Long Beach. In the batters box, Aurin hit .333 (17-for-51) with five homers, four doubles, 23 RBI and struck out just one time. She slugged .706 and had an on base percentage of .407. Defensively, both in the circle and at first base, she had 77 putouts and 21 assists without an error. She was named the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week (March 12-18).
In March, Bautista led the Spartans in the following categories: batting average at .400, runs with 16, 26 hits, 38 total bases, three strikeouts and a .473 on base percentage. Bautista had five three-hit games with four of them being consecutive. The senior recorded eight multi-hit games, and nine RBI batting from the second spot in the batting order.
