San Jose, Calif. --- San Francisco's Jonathan Allen (3-for-4, R, 3RBI, BB) set the tone early, hitting a home run off Jake Swiech's first pitch of the day in the 7-1 loss at Municipal Stadium to San Francisco (21-16).
The San Jose State baseball team (14-21) scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning when Kellen Strahm (2-for-4, RBI) doubled to right field to score Santiago Cantu (0-for-2).
In Strahm's last eight games, the sophomore is 14-for-33 (.424). In that eight-game span, he leads the Spartans with 11 runs, .548 OB%, and walks with nine.
The Don's pitching staff held off the Spartan batters who have hit .335 as a team since April 7. San Francisco struck out 10 batters with six of those strikeouts coming from Joey Steele in 2.0 innings.
The Dons struck out nine different batters in the Spartans lineup.
Kyle Morrison extended his hit streak to eight games. Morrison went 2-for-4 with a single to left field in the second, and a single to second base in the eighth.
Aaron Pleschner also went 2-for-4. His hit to right center in the third moved Cantu to second base which allowed him to score the Spartan's only run of Tuesday night.
Grant Goodman (1-0) received the win for San Francisco. He pitched 3.0 innings and allowed just one run on three hits.
Jake Swiech (1-2) took the loss for the Spartans. In 4.0 innings, the senior allowed two earned runs and struck out two batters.
The Spartans will travel to UC Riverside for a three-game series starting Friday at 6:00 p.m.
