Michael Carrillo is an outstanding student deeply involved in the San Jose State University Beyond Football program and in his third season competing for playing time at quarterback.
The fifth-year senior shares why he is passionate about the Beyond Football program, its uniqueness and how it makes a difference in people's lives.
Carrillo is one of this year's 41 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award winners from San Jose State University. The award honors student-athletes of color who personify the academic, athletic and community service ideals of former tennis great Arthur Ashe, Jr., the first black male to win tennis singles championships at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
