Santa Clara, Calif.- The San José State beach volleyball team split a pair of close duals Saturday, defeating Santa Clara 3-2, but falling to San Francisco, 3-2, at the SCU Beach Volleyball Courts.
Against Santa Clara, Nandyala Gama and Lyndi Scholl clinched the win for the Spartans with a 21-16 21-9 win. Julia Golbeck and Ciara Reistad won 21-12, 21-12 in the number-two position, while Laura Parts and Kaitlynn Zdroik won 21-7, 21-13 in the fourth position.
The Spartans then lost 3-2 to San Francisco. Gama and Scholl won against, 21-19 and 21-19, to improve their record to 12-7 on the season. Summer Avery and Ryann Thomison picked up the other Spartan point with a 21-14, 21-11 win.
San José State is now 8-11 on the season and plays in Stockton next Saturday, April 14. The Spartans face Pacific at 9 a.m. and Sacramento State at noon.
