San Jose, Calif.- San Jose State University won five out of six singles matches in a 5-2 non-conference women's tennis win over the UC Davis at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 11-6 on the season and ended a two-match losing streak.
Tamara Culibrk clinched the win for San Jose State with her 6-3, 6-2 straight sets win over Kristina Briesacher of UC Davis (13-4) at #2-singles.
Sybille Gauvain, Jackie Wagner, Savannah Sendar and Laura Malsert won their singles matches at #1, #4, #5 and #6, respectively, as the Spartans went into the six singles matches trailing 1-0.
After dropping the second set, Wagner was able to defeat Sara Tuukamoto in a third set (tie breaker) by 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6).
Savannah Sendar won the first singles point for the Spartans after her opponent Isabella Von Ebba retired due to injury.
"I think we played very well in singles. We were pretty close in doubles as one point could have made the difference," said the Spartan Sybille Gauvain.
"We were good at the end. I was little concerned after we lost the doubles point, but I was happy when I saw the final result," said San Jose State University women's tennis head coach Chad Skorupka.
San Jose State looks to make it two consecutive victories, Friday, April 13, when it hosts Fresno State in a Mountain West match at the Spartan Tennis Complex. First serve is at 12:00 p.m. (PT).
