Four San Jose State Baseball Players Earn All-Mountain West Honors

San Jose, Calif.--- San José State baseball players Andrew Mitchel, Brett Bautista, Fineas Del Bonta-Smith, and Shane Timmons earned All-Mountain West honors in a vote by the conference's seven head coaches.

Mitchel earned Mountain West Co-Pitcher of the Year, and was a first team selection; Bautista, a senior from Granite Bay, Calif., was also first team choice; Del Bonta-Smith, from Soquel, Calif., and Timmons, a senior from Mission Viejo, Calif. were both second team choices.

Mitchel becomes the second player in San José State history to earn conference Pitcher of the Year honors. In Mountain West games this season, he ranked first in opposing batting average at .218, second in the conference in strikeouts with 62, second in wins with 6. The junior transfer from Grossmont College allowed the least amount of earned runs among the pitchers with at least 55.0 innings.

Mitchel was the San José State leader in strikeouts with 92, wins with six, and innings pitched at 80.2.

Bautista and Mitchel both earned first team honors and became the first two Spartans to be named first team since joining the conference in 2013. Bautista ranked fourth in the Mountain West this season in batting average at .359, and fifth in ob% at .439.

He led the Spartans in batting average, and hits with 70, and was intentionally walked a team leading four times. He finished the regular season with the highest spartan batting average since 2010.

Right handed pitcher Fineas Del Bonta Smith and first baseman Shane Timmons earned second team honors.

In Mountain West play, Del Bonta-Smith ranked second in saves with five, and fifth in wins with 4. He was second on the team in strikeouts with 49 in 43.2 innings.

Timmons held a .332 batting average his senior year, and led the Spartans with a .515 slug percentage. He was the Spartan leader in homers this season with eight, and on senior weekend he hit a grand slam to become San José State's all-time leader in home runs at 26. Timmons led the team in RBI's with 53, and this year became second in school history in career RBI's with 141.
