Spartans Split A Pair At Aggie Roundup Men's Water Polo Tournament

Davis, Calif.----- Sophomore Justin Pickering scored three goals in each match as San Jose State University opened up play in the Aggie Round Up men's water polo tournament splitting a pair of matches.

The #17-Spartans (1-2) defeated Chapman, 14-8, and lost to #18-Cal Baptist, 8-7.

San Jose State scored the first nine goals in the win over Chapman. Nine players, led by Pickering's three, scored for the Spartans. Marc Weber, Brad Dennis, and Giacomo Lovatelli each scored twice. Cristian Tanase, Emerson Trout, Cade Baldridge, Adam Bado and Ashley Castle each scored once in the first win of the season for the Spartans.

Goalkeeper Yahav Fire was credited with nine saves in three quarters of action. Todd Palmer played the fourth quarter and made three saves.

The Spartans had fourth-quarter leads of 5-4 and 7-6 over #18-Chapman, but lost their lead when Christian Britton scored the game-winner for Chapman with 1:38 remaining.

Niels Hofmeijer, Neil Arnett, Bado, and Henry Smith joined Pickering in the scoring column.

Fire played the entire match in goal for the Spartans and was credited with 10 saves.

San Jose State closes out its play in the Aggie RoundUp taking on #15-George Washington at 8:15 a.m. and Fresno Pacific at noon.
