Women's Soccer Plays Hard To Scoreless Draw With Kansas State

Sept. 2, 2018

Final Stats

SAN JOSE, Calif. - SJSU women's soccer returned to the home pitch on Sunday for a shot-filled affair against Kansas State that ended in a scoreless draw.

The Spartans attempted 20 shots while the Wildcats attempted 15, however none of them found their mark as the goalkeepers combined for 12 saves. Paige Simoneau was fantastic in the box once again, tallying six saves on the day for the shutout.

At the 27-minute mark, Kansas State (3-1-1) had a golden opportunity to net the game's first goal after a penalty in the box allowed Katie Cramer to line up for a penalty kick. Simoneau trickled to her right just as the ball was sent off and watched as it harmlessly rolled outside the post.

After putting up 13 shots in regulation, the Spartans (0-2-2) dominated the shout count in overtime, outshooting the Wildcats 7-3. Six of those shots came in the first OT with three on-goal attempts, however Kansas State was able to corral each attempt. Jamilecxth Becerra led all players with eight shots, two on-goal.

With the draw, the Spartans now turn their attention to Cal State Fullerton, who they welcome to Spartan Soccer Field on Thursday, September 6, at 7:00 p.m. PT.
